Introducing…Maartje Bouvy joined Royal Haskoning as financial director on 1 January 2008. She is Royal Haskoning’s first woman group director, and her appointment is evidence of the organization’s commitment to bringing greater diversity into its management.
Maartje graduated in Business Management at Nijenrode University in 1993 and went on to study Economics at the Free University Amsterdam. She is also a qualified ‘Register Controller’, graduating from the Erasmus University in Rotterdam in 2000. Maartje Bouvy began her professional career in 1996 at Unilever where she held various posts. She gained experience of management accounting, buying, financial accounting and international controlling. Alongside her demanding job Maartje is the mother of four children (2, 3, 5 and 7). As founder of the ‘Rotterdam Blonde Table’ she champions ambitious women with full-time jobs. She’s pretty matter-of-fact about it. ‘A good child minder and careful planning gets you a long way. I like working in the evening when the children are in bed. I enjoy doing it and it’s invigorating’ Of her first experiences at Royal Haskoning Maartje says, ‘I’m proud to work for this company. Good, friendly people who really care about the business make it easy to feel at home here. I want to step up the professionalism with the finance team. Not just to get the standard procedures to run well, but also to become an equal business partner in the company. Finance can make a significant contribution to achieving healthy growth to € 500m with 6000 people.
