Royal Haskoning delivers worldwide chemicals database to TechniData AG
On 18 April last the German software company TechniData AG signed a five-year contract with Royal Haskoning for the supply of content for their software application for the chemical industry. Royal Haskoning’s unique EaSI-Pro® database contains relevant information about more than 250,000 chemical substances all over the world, including the applicable legislation and regulations per country. The expected value of the contract is 5 million euros.
TechniData is a leading global supplier of chemical safety management (CSM) software that is completely integrated in SAP ERP. The collaboration with Royal Haskoning enables TechniData to offer its customers a comprehensive software package, including a top quality and current database. "Companies can use the CSM software to check whether they are complying with legislation, how they can use the chemicals safely, how they have to communicate safety information and how they have to deal with waste," explains Geoffrey Schouten, EaSI-Pro® product manager. "Safety information is usually communicated by means of material safety data sheets (MSDSs). The TechniData software generates MSDSs in all the necessary languages and formats, and inserts relevant data from EaSI-Pro® into the MSDSs.
Guaranteeing quality
EaSI-Pro® is a database that contains data about the properties of chemicals, for example boiling point, melting point and toxicity. It also has information about legislation and regulations, such as limit values, classifications and prohibitions. "We already monitor over two hundred legal sources all over the world and we are always up to date. All information is available in the language in which it was published and English as standard. We save companies a lot of work and guarantee the quality. Companies know that they will also comply with the applicable legislation and regulations," continues Schouten. Besides the EaSI-Pro® Data product, Royal Haskoning also has EaSI-Pro® View – an on-line product that clients can use to search in the EaSI-Pro® database. Both products are used by government and semi-government agencies, water boards, test laboratories, inspection organizations and the chemical industry in over ten European countries and also in Israel and the United States. Thanks to the collaboration with TechniData it is expected that the EaSI-Pro® solutions will be used worldwide.
REACH
Reliable and validated information about chemicals is a hot topic in the European Union. Last year, for example, REACH (the new European chemicals regulation) came into force. REACH stands for the registration, evaluation, authorization and restriction of chemicals. The aim of the new regulation is to make the organization of the safe handling and use of chemicals in the different product chains more transparent, more reliable and safer. "REACH is very topical among government agencies and companies. We have excellent tools available for supporting both public and private sector organizations in fulfilling their obligations under this new regulation. I therefore expect growing demand for our EaSI-Pro® solutions. Fortunately safety, public health and the environment are also becoming increasingly important in Eastern European and Asian countries," says Schouten.
