Royal Haskoning at the World Expo in ZaragozaWater and sustainable development were the themes of the World Expo in Zaragoza.
The Netherlands made a good impression with the latest thinking in coastal and water works, as the country for water management, water technology, delta technology and climate change. There was a particular focus on 'Building with Nature' and the ‘International Year of Sanitation'. The presentation by Royal Haskoning got a royal boost with the extended visit from Prince Willem Alexander and Princess Maxima. The organisation was one of the eight sponsors that made the Dutch contribution possible. On 25 June, 150 people from the Dutch water sector led by State Secretary for Economic Affairs, Frank Heemskerk, flew to the World Expo at the invitation of the Netherlands Water Partnership (NWP). Royal Haskoning was represented by consultants Auke Piek and Hein Pijnappel. The director of the NWP, Jeroen van der Sommen, said, ‘Gradually everyone is becoming more and more convinced that it makes sense to present ourselves collectively as the Dutch water sector. We see this at these kinds of events. We are recognised as a country where high-quality, innovative solutions are to be found when water is involved.’
